I. THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATION FOR PROPHETS

GOD HAS ALWAYS SPOKEN THROUGH PROPHETS
“Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.”
— Amos 3:7, KJV

Prophets were God’s mouthpieces, raised in specific times to deliver His message (Jeremiah 1:4–9; 2 Chronicles 36:15–16). They never contradicted prior revelation (Isaiah 8:20), and their work was to edify, guide, rebuke, and uplift the people of God (1 Corinthians 14:3)

II. PROPHETIC GIFT IN THE LAST DAYS

FALSE PROPHETS WOULD RISE, BUT TRUE ONES STILL EXIST
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
— Matthew 24:11, KJV

This does not cancel the prophetic gift. We are to test the spirits:

“Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:20–21, KJV

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
— 1 John 4:1, KJV

III. THE PROPHETIC GIFT AND THE REMNANT CHURCH

GOD’S REMNANT CHURCH POSSESSES THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS
“And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
— Revelation 12:17, KJV

“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
— Revelation 19:10, KJV

The remnant church keeps God’s commandments and possesses the prophetic gift.

IV. BIBLICAL TESTS OF A TRUE PROPHET (AND HOW ELLEN G. WHITE MEETS THEM)

  1. HARMONY WITH THE BIBLE
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
    — Isaiah 8:20, KJV

Ellen White's writings exalt Scripture and never contradict it. She called herself “a lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light” (Review and Herald, Jan 20, 1903)

  1. FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT IN THE PROPHET’S LIFE
“Ye shall know them by their fruits... Every good tree bringeth forth good fruit.”
    — Matthew 7:16–17, KJV

Her life was marked by humility, sacrifice, and Christlike service. Her health and education messages built thousands of institutions globally.

  1. FULFILLMENT OF PROPHETIC INSIGHT
“When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken...”
    — Deuteronomy 18:22, KJV

Her health, education, and spiritual insights were confirmed by science and history decades later.

  1. UPLIFTS JESUS CHRIST
“Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.”
    — 1 John 4:2, KJV

Ellen White wrote more about Jesus than any other subject. The Desire of Ages remains a Christ-centered masterpiece.

V. DISTINCTION BETWEEN ELLEN WHITE AND THE BIBLE

ELLEN WHITE SUBMITTED TO SCRIPTURE’S SUPREMACY
“I recommend to you, dear reader, the Word of God as the rule of your faith and practice... the Bible, and the Bible alone, is to be our creed.”
— Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 416

The Bible is the final authority (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Ellen White applied biblical truth but did not replace or equal it.

VI. WHY NOT OTHER MODERN-DAY PROPHETS?

MOST MODERN PROPHETS FAIL THE BIBLICAL TESTS

  • They contradict Scripture

  • Their prophecies fail

  • Their focus is on personal gain

  • They manipulate followers

  • They create new revelations and doctrines

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
— 2 Corinthians 11:13–14, KJV

God gave a true prophetic voice for the last days through Ellen White.

VII. THE PURPOSE OF ELLEN WHITE’S WRITINGS

HER WRITINGS SERVE FOUR MAIN PURPOSES

  1. Illuminate and clarify the Scriptures

  2. Provide counsel in spiritual, practical, and theological matters

  3. Prepare a people for the Second Coming

  4. Encourage Christian living and holiness

“God has committed to us in these last days special messages of instruction to guide His people safely along the way to the kingdom.”
— Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 663

VIII. A FINAL WORD: THE ROLE OF ELLEN WHITE IS CHRIST-CENTERED

“Lift up Jesus, you that teach the people, lift Him up in sermon, in song, and in prayer... Let the science of salvation be the burden of every sermon.”
— Gospel Workers, p. 160

Her purpose was not self-promotion but to lead souls to Jesus Christ.
